Surrendering an Animal

Animal Surrender Information

If you are considering surrendering an animal, you must schedule an appointment before bringing them to the shelter.

Please note that HSMC is not an open-admission shelter and reserves the right to decline intake under certain circumstances. Additionally, due to high demand, there is always a waiting list, and we can only accept new animals as others are adopted.

If you have found a stray animal, please contact Marion County Animal Control at (352) 671-8727. HSMC does not pick up stray animals and is not equipped to handle nuisance animal situations. Marion County Animal Services also offers a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program to assist with managing feral cat colonies.
