HSMC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and protection of animals in Marion County, FL Our mission is to prevent cruelty, suffering and over-population of animals through education, housing and financial support.
We are T-Minus 6 Days Away from our 2nd Annual Dog Mom 5K! It's not too late to join in on the fun, we still have tickets left! Moms, Dads, Kids, and Furry Friends are all welcome to join us on Saturday, May 10th at 8:00 AM, at the Baseline Trail Head for a paws-itively fun run!

We are spotlighting Bryant once again! Bryant is almost 4 years old and has been at the shelter for almost 1 year! Bryant is still learning to come out of his shell; he will need a quiet home with a family that is patient and does not have any other dogs. Meet Jason Stiles, a two-year-old feline with a heart full of love and curiosity. His friendly nature makes him an excellent companion for children over twelve. Jason is not just sweet and cuddly, he is also playful, always ready to chase a toy mouse or pounce on a jingling ball. He is selective with his feline friends, preferring to be the star of the show. April didn't bring May flowers for the Humane Society, April brought adoptions! We were showered with 119 Adoptions for the month of April! Our total for Adoptions for 2025 is now 466!

This #ThankfulThursday we’re sending a big thank you to a very special student from Hammett Bowen Elementary School who took it upon themself to collect donations for our shelter. With compassion and dedication, this young supporter gathered supplies to help the animals in our care.
