HSMC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and protection of animals in Marion County, FL Our mission is to prevent cruelty, suffering and over-population of animals through education, housing and financial support.
Meet Sprite — the bravest little pup with the biggest heart.
At just a young age, this sweet girl has already overcome so much. Sprite was diagnosed with Persistent Right Aortic Arch (PRAA) — a rare condition that caused her esophagus to be constricted, making it nearly impossible for food to reach her stomach. As a result, she became severely malnourished and developed megaesophagus, a condition that prevents proper swallowing.
But Sprite? She’s a fighter.
She underwent a major surgery on March 30th to correct the PRAA — and while she’s made incredible progress, her journey is far from over. Sprite now has to eat in a fully upright position for every meal to avoid choking. We’re working to get her a custom Bailey Chair to help her eat safely and live a full, joyful life.
Her surgery cost $3,100, and the chair will be another important investment in her future.
She’s currently thriving in a loving foster home, enjoying her meals like a proper little lady (sitting up like a human!) and soaking up all the love. We’re hopeful with time, patience, and support, she’ll continue to grow stronger.
But we can’t do it alone — we need YOU.
Will you donate today to help Sprite keep thriving? Your gift, big or small, will directly support her continued care and give her the future she deserves.

Two weeks ago, our friends at Open Hands Animal Rescue (OHAR) answered an urgent plea from a hoarding case in Jacksonville involving a group of Rottweilers who had been living in outdoor kennels with little to no socialization 🐾💔.
After the original breeder passed away, the family needed help fast. Out of the 24 dogs, many puppies were sadly sold or given to other breeders. But HSMC welcomed 7 into our care, and OHAR took in 4 🐶❤️.
These sweet souls are slowly learning what it means to be loved—and the best part? Many are now ready for adoption!
✨ Come visit us at the Humane Society of Marion County, show them some love, and help give them the fresh start they deserve! ✨
📍 Let’s give these resilient pups the forever homes they’ve been waiting for.
Adopt, don’t shop. You’ll be changing a life—maybe even your own 🐕💞
