Dr. Martha Zimmerman

University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, 1996

Originally from Peoria, Illinois, Dr. Martha Zimmerman graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. She began her veterinary career practicing in Charlotte, NC, and Salisbury, MD, before expanding her family by adopting three children from Russia between 1999 and 2005.

In 2007, Dr. Zimmerman relocated to Florida, where she worked with Animal Services, focusing on cruelty investigations and performing surgeries on the Neuter Commuter. She joined the Humane Society of Marion County in 2021, where she continues to dedicate her skills and compassion to animals in need.

When she's not at the clinic, Dr. Zimmerman enjoys snuggling her three Chiweenies, spoiling her five grandchildren, and rescuing clearance plants from Lowe's like a true plant hero.

Dr. Fischer

Michigan State University, Class of 1969

Dr. Fischer is a seasoned mixed animal veterinarian with decades of experience in both clinical practice and education. A proud graduate of Michigan State University, Class of 1969, Dr. Fischer specialized in beef, dairy, and swine medicine while practicing in Michigan.

She previously owned and operated Concord Veterinary Clinic and Village Veterinary Clinic in Fremont, Michigan. In addition to her veterinary work, Dr. Fischer has a strong background in education, having taught anatomy, physiology, and veterinary nursing courses at Baker College. She has also been a dedicated 4-H leader, mentoring countless young animal lovers over the years.

Dr. Fischer is licensed to practice in both Florida and Michigan and continues to bring her wealth of knowledge and passion for animal care to the Humane Society of Marion County.
