Tips for Lost & Found Pets

If You've Lost a Pet

  • Check shelters often.
  • Post flyers at vets' offices, shelters, groomers, and local neighborhoods.
  • Notify your pet's microchip company. If you don't know the company, call your vet or the location where the chip was implanted.
  • For lost cats: put a litter box outside (out of the rain) and a can of tuna around feeding times. Call often — dawn, dusk, day, and night.
  • For lost dogs: place something with your family's scent (unlaundered) outside and out of the rain.

If You've Found a Pet

  • Immediately take the animal to a shelter or vet's office to be scanned for a microchip.
  • Notify the microchip company and try to locate the owner.
  • Register the found pet on the sites listed below.
