There are several ways that you can directly affect the success of the Humane Society of Marion County. The Humane Society of Marion County is a non-profit no-kill shelter dedicated to caring for and protecting animals in Marion County, Florida. We have been serving homeless and neglected animals in Ocala and Marion County for over 55 years. We’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings in 1964, with a couple of foster homes and a few good people with a burden to care for these helpless creatures. The first facility, built-in 1979, was located about 15 miles west of Ocala off Hwy 200 in the Black Jack woods, where very few people lived. Today, this area is very heavily populated and continues to grow. Below is a picture of the first facility, taken shortly after the facility opened.
What We Do
Donate
Funds we receive are used to care for the animals: medicine, spay/neuter, surgeries, food, play areas, and a comfortable, clean bed every night.
Adopt
We want to ensure that there are no homeless animals on the street. Make a difference. Adopt a dog or cat and provide a loving home to an animal in need.
Heal
You are the eyes and ears of animals being abused. Some are tied out with no shelter, food or water, and sometimes left abandoned to die. Help us, help them.
Volunteer
Animal rescue volunteers often report that assisting with an rescue operation changed their lives. They never forget the animals they helped get on the road to recovery.
Clinic
We take every possible action to care for homeless animals and victims of cruelty and neglect and increase their probability of adoption.
Thrift store
Profits from the sale of your donations go directly to care for animals in need. Your donations are tax-deductible.
Foster
Our Foster Care Program encourages members of the community to open their homes to our animals who need out of the shelter.
Events
Our events allow us to provide quality care for the animals entrusted to us. They also help us continue our services and programs that are making a difference for the homeless animals.
You Can Help By Donating Today
We rely on the support of dedicated volunteers, donors and thrift store shoppers to continue our mission to eliminate the needless euthanasia of healthy and treatable pets in North Central Florida.
